Queensland have made an early break at the top of the Matador Cup table with a Duckworth Lewis Stern-assisted win on a rain-interrupted day at Allan Border Field in Brisbane.
Queensland's 5 for 158 from 35.5 was initially revised to a target of 178 from 27 overs. Tasmania had reached 3 for 114 in 19.3 overs when the rain returned, leaving them a mere one run short of the figure required to level with Queensland.
Tasmania had needed eight runs from the 20th over to get ahead of Queensland, but were forced from the field having made three singles from the first three balls. It was a close thing for Queensland, who nevertheless topped the table with two wins from as many matches.
Michael Neser was a key contributor for Queensland with 2 for 29 from six miserly overs, after Marnus Labuschagne had top-scored with 51 when they batted first.
Alex Doolan and Jake Doran had looked in control when the rain ended the match, and will have to hope for better fortune next time around.
