An opening batsman, Tommy Ebden was in the Eton XI, and then the Cambridge XI in 1902 and 1903. In 1902 he made a sensational debut, making 137 against H Leveson-Gower's XI and finishing the season with 510 runs at 24.28. He won Blues in both years, and after finishing at university he played a few games for Sussex and Middlesex, In 1904-05 he toured the Caribbean with Lord Brackley's XI. He was also a good hockey player, winning Blues in 1901, 1902 and 1903 and also playing for England.
