Matt Taylor, younger brother of Jack, who is also at Gloucestershire, has developed through the academy at Bristol. In 2011, he played two List A matches at the Cheltenham Festival while still at school.

Taylor made his first-class debut against Leicestershire at the end of the 2013 season and during 2014 he was given more opportunities in the Championship, playing nine games and taking 21 wickets at 43.09.

Having missed most of the 2015 season through injury, he had a good NatWest T20 Blast campaign in 2016, taking 15 wickets at 21 to help Gloucestershire top the South Group. He even gained the rare accolade of bowling a T20 maiden to Chris Gayle in Taunton.

His form saw him pick up the club's Young Player of the Year award for 2016 and win selection for the England Pace Programme. He predicted a good season ahead, whether personally or for the county, but it failed to materialise.
