Ben Green made significant strides with bat and ball in 2021 and 2022 to become a first-team regular at Somerset, particularly in white-ball cricket.

A former England age-group player who went to the Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh in early 2016, Green flattered to deceive in his early outings as a professional, struggling to nail down a place after being given an opportunity to open the batting in the County Championship.

But he proved his worth in 2021 as a workmanlike allrounder, hitting a vital 35 off 18 balls in the T20 Blast semi-final to drag Somerset into the final. The following summer he had a breakthrough with the ball, taking 21 Blast wickets (the most of any Somerset bowler) and then captained their depleted 50-over side with distinction, despite their poor results. In one game against Durham, he hit 10 fours and 12 sixes in an astonishing 157 off 84 from No. 7, as Somerset fell just short in an attempted chase of 343.
