Sukhbinder Singh spells Tripura's doom

Assam trounced Tripura by an innings and 92 runs on day three of four of their Ranji Trophy clash at Agartala. Left arm spinners Sukhbinder Singh and former Tamil Nadu cricketer Sunil Subramaniam scalped five wickets each to dismiss Tripura for 179 in their second innings.

Beginning the day on 18 for no loss, there was very little chance that Tripura would be able to eke out a draw. Dismissed for 116 in their first essay, they were unable to deal with Sukhbinder Singh (5/15). Assam in turn had no problems, amassing 387/8 before declaring. Although Assam's lead was only 271, it was more than enough against Tripura.

If Sukhbinder Singh was lethal in the first innings, he was only a shade less effective in the second innings. Slamping 5/30, Sukhbinder Singh took his match tally to 10/46. His amazing figures made Sunil Subramaniam's 5/36 look pedestrian. The two left arm spinner's ended Tripura's misery in the 77th over, knocking the home team out for 179. M Gupta's 39 was the only semblance of resistance, but that too made no difference to the outcome of the game. Assam collected 8 points and Tripura were left empty-handed after losing by an innings and 92 runs.
