Chris Read, the Nottinghamshire wicketkeeper, has received three penalty points under the ECB's discipline code after his bust-up with Mushtaq Ahmed in the Championship match at Hove yesterday. The points will remain on his record for two years, with nine points meaning an automatic suspension.
Read was reported by umpires Graham Burgess and Rob Bailey for a Level Two breach of the ECB code, which relates to the use of language or a gesture that is obscene or of a serious insulting nature to another player. After Mushtaq trapped him lbw, Read had gone into the dressing room but returned to the boundary where the two exchanged angry words. He later issued an apology.
The incident has also been referred to the ECB Discipline Committee who will consider further action against Read.
