Simon Jones recorded career-best figures of 6-45 as Derbyshire were dismissed for 217 on the opening day of the new season at Cardiff.
The young pace bowler had a fine opening spell, taking wickets with his second and third ball as he returned figures of 4-12 in his first six overs.
"It`s been a great start to the season," said the young bowler. "I worked hard this winter in Australia with the E.C.B. Academy, especially on my fitness and with my action. John Derrick and Steve Watkin have also passed on plenty of advice, and I feel that all of this has made me a much better bowler. I came on today as first change, and I felt I had more control with the old ball, putting it in the right areas and then reaping the rewards."
To put icing on the cake, Simon`s performance today was in front of Rod Marsh, the E.C.B. Academy coach, who was visiting the Cardiff ground.
