helped Bengal recover to 193/3 on the opening day of their East Zone
Ranji Trophy clash against Assam at Maligaon. Earlier Assam's last
wicket pair added 19 more runs in the morning before the innings
terminated at 291. Off spinner Saurashish Lahiri retained figures of
4/63.
Bengal opener Arijit Basu, fresh from a century on debut in the
previous game, fell in the sixth over for 11. Amitava Banerjee and
skipper Devang Gandhi, coming in at one-drop, added 75 for the second
wicket before both fell in the space of six balls. Gandhi's 54 was
collected off 118 balls, with five boundaries. Kalyani (50) and
Gavaskar (41) played out the remaining two hours without further
mishap.
