England A lost their second successive warm-up match against a Karnataka XI at Bangalore. After going down by eight wickets yesterday, they lost by four wickets today, mainly due to an unbeaten century from opener Vinayak Uthappa.
It was much closer than yesterday's game as Ed Smith, who made his England Test debut last summer, made 52 to help England reach a more competitive 203 or 7 from their 50 overs. Surrey opener Scott Newman (40) and Yorkshire's Michael Lumb (34*) also made useful contributions.
Karnataka's reply got off to bad start, faltering to 11 for 3, with three of the first four batsmen back in the pavilion without scoring. But Uthappa then scored 101 not out, putting on 81 with Stuart Binny, and 78 with Yegati Girish.
For England, Lancashire's Sajid Mahmood was again the best of the bowlers, taking 2 for 23. Glamorgan's Simon Jones was again forced to sit the game out with a swollen knee.
