John Dyson, the newly-appointed West Indies coach, has described the challenge of working with West Indies as "too enticing to leave alone".
Dyson, interviewed during the KFC Cup final at the 3Ws Oval, said the prospect of turning around the West Indies' recent dismal performances "will take some time", but added that, in his view, "it is important in world cricket that West Indies be strong".
"We aim to reverse the trend [of current international performances], maintain or, in fact, improve on our current position on the ICC table and that won't come over night," Dyson said. Speaking about the team, Dyson said he is aiming "to achieve an environment in which these players can achieve their potential", but he refrained from making any promises as to when the turnaround would be achieved.
In terms of the approach he will be using with the team, Dyson said: "There are particular strategies for different types of people." He added that he would be looking to learn about the team before putting any particular strategy in place.
However, on the prospects of coaching a team which has often been described as being on "a downward spiral", Dyson said he is not overly pressured by the assignment but feels more pressure to prove to the people in the Caribbean that he is actually deserving of the job and he can do the job because he is just as passionate about West Indies cricket as the fans.
