The Boland Cricket Board have awarded Henry Williams a benefit for the 2000/2001 season as a reward for 10 years' loyal service to the province which dates back to the old SABC days.
The benefit follows Williams's successfull season in 1999 when he topped the averages in both domestic competitions.
As has been widely reported, last season was also a most unhappy experience for Williams when he was caught in the crossfire of the match fixing saga in India. He has now been fined by the UCB Disciplinary Committee for his role in the affair.
"It was an extremely difficult time for me and my family, but I have now put it behind me and I'm determined to fight my way back into contention again. One stupid moment without any thought nearly ruined my life" said Williams.
This benefit will kick off with a banquet in Stellenbosch on October 3 and will be followed by a golf day and a benefit cricket match in February. Williams an enthusiastic pigeon breeder intends staging a pigeon race as part of his benefit programme.
