Aaqib Javed, former Pakistan fast-bowler and chief coach of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), has been offered the bowling coach's position for the Bangladesh national team. The offer was made during Pakistan Academy's tour of Bangladesh on which, Aaqib served as the coach.
"Bangladesh board officials came up with the offer during an informal chat while we were in Dhaka. But I plainly told them to give me at least a couple of weeks to think about it," Aaqib told the daily Dawn. "I don't want to make any hasty decision due to my other commitments."
Aaqib, a vital member of the World Cup winning team in 1992, is also backed by many to land the job of Pakistan's national coach. Nasim Ashraf, chairman PCB, reportedly backed Aaqib's credentials during an ad hoc committee meeting in Lahore last month.
However, Aaqib, who also coached the Under-19 World Cup-winning teams of 2004 and 2006, is unconcerned with these reports. "Why should I worry or lose my sleep over it?" he asked. "But if the offer comes my way, I'll certainly consider taking up the challenge as a great honour."
Pakistan go into this month's three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi with Talat Ali acting as manager-cum-coach.
