Adam Voges, the Australian batsman, is expected to return as Nottinghamshire's overseas players for 2012. The signing is expected to be announced at the county's AGM on February 27.
The club had approached VVS Laxman but were keen to secure a player across all formats and Laxman did not want to play T20.
Voges, 32, has played for Nottinghamshire since 2008, scoring over 4,500 runs in all competitions, helping them win the County Championship in 2010. He has also scored 392 runs in 15 ODIs for Australia, his last game coming in February 2011 against England at Perth.
The news is a boost for Nottinghamshire, who learned that David Hussey, a regular feature in the county's T20 side, will not be returning to the club next season because of international commitments. Hussey has recently been elevated to Australia's ODI squad, who tour West Indies in April, England in June and play Pakistan in August. Hussey will also play for Punjab in the IPL.
Nottinghamshire will also be without Darren Pattinson, the fast bowler who earned a solitary England cap in 2008, who will miss the start of the season with a stress fracture in his back.
