Glamorgan have arranged two pre-season friendlies against Wales Minor
Counties. The
matches will be at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff on Saturday, April 19th and
Sunday, April 20th,
with both games being 50 overs contests, starting at 11.00am. April 19th is
also the
Glamorgan Short Legs Open Day, when junior members will get a chance to meet the
players, and see behind the scenes at the club.
Bob Cottam, the former Somerset coach and Warwickshire team manager, will be
assisting
Glamorgan during the 1997 season. Cottam will also act as a part-time
bowling consultant
with Warwickshire.
A report in the latest issue of "The Cricketer" magazine has hinted that
Roland Lefebvre
could make a return to international cricket by appearing for Holland in the
sixth
I.C.C.Trophy, taking place in March in Malaysia. Lefebvre emigrated to South
Africa midway
through the last English summer after retiring from county cricket at the
start of the season
through injury. Roland has recently been coaching Argentina who will also be
taking part in
the I.C.C. competition.
"Waqar-fever" has already broken out in South Wales even before the
Pakistani pace ace
has made his Glamorgan debut, with a tandoori restaurant in Cardiff being
named after the
club's overseas player for 1997. The "Waqar Balti Tandoori" is owned by Arif
and Jahangir
Khan , and they have agreed to let Waqar eat free of charge in their
restaurant.
