David Morgan, the Glamorgan Chairman, has announced that he will be standing
down at the club`s A.G.M. in March after five highly successful years in the
post. Morgan, who succeeded Tony Lewis as Glamorgan`s Chairman, will not be
seeking re-election in order to concentrate on his other commitments,
including his role as Deputy Chairman of the England and Wales Cricket
Board. "I feel that it is time for me to step aside after five years and
give someone else a chance," he said. "There are plenty of other good
candidates within the club, which is now a smoothly run business-like
operation. I`m sure that success will now come a great deal more often and
it certainly isn`t a case of me dashing off after winning the
Championship."
Glamorgan will know during mid-January whether or not Duncan Fletcher, their
coah in 1997, will be returning to Glamorgan for the new season. The club`s
officials had hoped that Fletcher, who returned at the end of the English
summer, to resume his coaching duties in South Africa, would inform the
Welsh county by Christmas, but he has now delayed his decision until early
in the New Year. "We`ve been in contact with Duncan, who has been in
charge recently of the South African A side ", said Glamorgan Secretary Mike
Fatkin. "We don`t want to rush him because we feel that Duncan is the right
man for the job. But we`ve had to put some sort of time scale on it because
we must have enough time to look at Plan B should that situation arise."

the first phase of the £9 million Sophia Gardens development
project.
