On Wednesday, Glamorgan will make another addition to their staff for the 1997 season, with the formal announcement that Duncan Fletcher will be acting as the Welsh county`s 1st XI coach next year. The 39 year old all rounder had an outstanding record in Zimbabwe, and acted as their captain in the 1983 World Cup. Fletcher was the coach of the South Africa `A` team last summer when they toured England, and Glamorgan officials began negotiations with him in July. He is currently Director of Cricket in Western Province, and he will fulfil a similar role next summer with Glamorgan. His appointment means that John Derrick, who acted as the 1st XI coach and manager in 1996 can revert back to a similar role with the 2nd XI, with Alan Jones remaining as Director of Coaching, and looking after the youth teams.
