Waqar Younis made his long awaited Glamorgan debut today against Ireland at Sophia Gardens in the Welsh county`s final game in the zonal round of the Benson and Hedges Cup.

The Pakistani pace bowler arrived in Britain last week with his left foot in plaster after sustaining an injury during Pakistan`s tour of Sri Lanka. However, a series of bone scans showed that there was no stress fracture, much to the relief of Glamorgan`s officials and players, who are looking forward to Waqar spearheading the county`s attack for the next two seasons.

After getting the all clear from the medical staff, Waqar has done some gym work, and at Taunton on Sunday he took part in bowling and fielding practice before Glamorgan`s Axa Life League game with Somerset. He came through this without any adverse reaction and this morning was included in Glamorgan`s side for the match with Ireland.

Under a grey Cardiff sky, Waqar opened the bowling with Steve Watkin, and despite the chilly conditions, Waqar bowled some brisk balls against the Irish amateurs. He had delivered five overs before rain set in and later in the afternoon forced play to be abandoned for the day.

A quiet start maybe for Waqar, but good news for all of Glamorgan`s followers to know that he is back in action.
