Matthew Maynard has been re-appointed as Glamorgan's captain for 1997.
Maynard was in charge for the first time last season, having taken over from
Hugh Morris, and his form did not suffer whilst leading the Welsh county.
Indeed, the aggressive right handed batsman had a highly successful season
with the bat in 1996 hitting 1610 runs in first-class games at an average of
61.92, and 763 runs in all limited overs matches at an average of 44.88, and
was also chosen for the England side in their one-day internationals with
India and Pakistan. Glamorgan, under Maynard's leadership also reached the
quarter-finals of the Benson and Hedges Cup, and moved up to a mid-table
position in the County Championship. "Matthew has done a very effective job
in improving Glamorgan's fortunes and we are certain he is the right man to
lead the side." said Secretary Mike Fatkin.
