Waqar Younis could be making his Glamorgan debut next week as
Glamorgan travel to Yorkshire for a Championship match and Sunday League
encounter at Headingley. The Pakistani pace ace arrived in the U.K. on
Monday, and a further bone scan has confirmed that the foot injury he
sustained in Sri Lanka last month was not as serious as first thought. The
scans dispelled the fear that Waqar had sustained a stress fracture, and
with the Pakistani working hard in the gym, he should soon be making his
Glamorgan debut.
"Waqar`s raring to go", said Secretary Mike Fatkin. "We`re all
relieved that it wasn`t a stress fracture and Waqar has already started his
remedial work. Some people had suggested that Waqar might have been able to
play in our last Benson and Hedges Cup match against Ireland on Bank Holiday
Monday, but our physio, Dean Conway, thinks that a Headingley debut is more
likely. We`ve got five months of the season still to go, and we must not
rush Waqar back too soon."
