There was good news this morning for Robert Croft, Dean Cosker and Darren
Thomas as the England selectors announced their winter tour parties.
Robert Croft has been chosen in the 17 man party for the Ashes tour to
Australia, with Peter Such as his spin bowling partner. With 14 caps to his
name already, it looks as if Robert could return home from Australia as the
Glamorgan player with most England caps. The current record is 15, held
jointly by Jeff Jones and Allan Watkins.
Darren Thomas and Dean Cosker will be going on the A tour to South Africa
and Zimbabwe. For Cosker it will be his second A tour following a successful
trip last winter to Kenya and Sri Lanka. As far as Darren is concerned, this
will be his first senior tour, having played previously for England Under-19
in 1993. Thomas` selection is a handsome reward for a fine summer, during
which he has taken 63 wickets and scored 447 runs in first-class games.

players during the winter months via these webpages.
Glamorgan have released Gary Butcher, the 23 year old all-rounder. He joined
the club in 1993, and made his county debut the following season. In all,
Butcher appeared 40 times in first-class cricket, scoring 1357 runs and
taking 54 wickets. In 1996 he hit a Championship best 89* against
Northamptonshire at Northampton, and the following season hit his maiden
first-class century against Oxford University at Oxford. His best bowling
figures were 7-77 against Gloucestershire at Bristol in 1996.
