TUFNELL READY FOR ENGLAND
CricInfo's latest columnist declares his genius
22 May 2001

In-form Phil Tufnell is hoping to catch the selectors' eyes before the second npower Test Match against Pakistan at Old Trafford. Writing on CricInfo in the first instalment of his new diary column Tufnell said, "If it comes - great stuff; if not, I'm still working hard. So, the message to Mr Graveney and his wise men is: Tuffers says it's coming out of the hand brilliantly and he's bowling like a genius!"

Of the victory in the First Test at Lord's, Tufnell was full of praise for the England team: "They batted fantastically, bowled fantastically, fielded fantastically. There's a buzz about the game and, if we do well against the Aussies, it could really take off. The public is right behind them."

The Cat would however have liked to see the Pakistanis include one of their spinners at Lord's: "When I'm sitting there with my cup of tea, dunking the old digestive and having a fag, I do want to see the top spin bowlers. Saqlain Mushtaq is one of the best and perhaps we'll see him in the Pakistani side at Old Trafford.
