CRICINFO.COM GOES MOBILE
Cricket scores and news available all over the world ...on the mobile internet
21 March 2001

CricInfo.com, the world's most popular cricket web site, is now available on the mobile internet via WAP enabled phones. The free service, available at mobile.cricinfo.com, allows users to stay in touch with the latest scores and news from international cricket wherever they are in the world.

The new mobile service is set to emulate the success of its big brother, www.cricinfo.com, which records in excess of 100 million page impressions a month. More than 70,000 page views have already been recorded for the mobile service since it went live five days ago.

The easy-to-use service provides all the latest scores and results from Test Matches and One-Day Internationals, the latest team news and stories as they happen, full schedules and fixtures for international tours and information about the players. CricInfo will be accessible from any internet enabled mobile phone, PDA, or other wireless device, connected to any type of wireless network, such as GSM and CDMA.

The service has been launched to coincide with the busiest time of year for international cricket, with four major international tours in progress. The series between England and Sri Lanka reached its climax last week with the third and final Test; India plays host to the Australians; Pakistan are touring New Zealand; and the South Africans are taking on a resurgent West Indies team.

Peter Griffiths, CricInfo's Managing Director said: "While the web site remains the core CricInfo business, expanding into new areas such as the mobile internet is important both in terms of offering the best possible product but also in creating alternative revenue streams. We're also seeing how popular the service is and the volume of the traffic combined with our user profile makes this a very saleable package."
