CricInfo and ECB.co.uk August Traffic Figures 14 September 2000

Graham McKechnie CricInfo.com, the world's most popular cricket web site, registered over 67 million page impressions during August 2000, an increase of nearly 150 per cent on August 1999's traffic. ECB.co.uk, the official England web site powered by CricInfo, registered 33.7 million page impressions in just its second month. The total number of impressions for ECB.co.uk since its launch on June 29th stands at 74.7 million. The month was a good one for English cricket supporters, with the resurgence of the England side as they overcame the West Indies. The Oval Test Match, which finished on the 4th September, registered a total of 14.9 million page impressions over the five days, compared to just over four million for the last Test against New Zealand 12 months ago. More than half of CricInfo's traffic came from the UK. Also taking place during August was the inaugural indoor tournament between Australia and South Africa at the Colonial Stadium in Melbourne and the climax of the Test Series between Sri Lanka and South Africa. Simon King, CricInfo's Chief Executive said: "The figures are excellent for this time of year, when the main cricket focus is on the English Test Series. These figures give an indication of our popularity in the UK, and the popularity of the game as well. "With England on tour this winter and Test Matches being played in all the other cricket countries, we expect that this will continue and that traffic figures will continue to rise."
