CricInfo signs one-year deal with BCCSL
13 Oct 2001

CricInfo.com, the world's leading cricket web site, has signed a contract with the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka (BCCSL) to host Sri Lankan cricket's official web site, www.lankacricket.lk, for the next 12 months. The BCCSL's corporate web site, www.bccsl.com, will also be hosted by CricInfo.

Lankacricket.lk will replace the current Sri Lankan site hosted by CricInfo, which has served a staggering 150 million page views in 2001 so far. The site will be launched in time for the Champions Trophy in Sharjah later this month.

The site will include live coverage of all Sri Lanka's Test matches and One-Day Internationals, including ball by ball text commentary and score updates, in-depth coverage of domestic cricket, the latest news articles, features, audio interviews, a fully searchable statistical database, competitions, polls and a photographic archive.

"This partnership with CricInfo is very good news for all of us involved with Sri Lankan cricket. Sri Lankan fans overseas and the rapidly growing online community at home can now stay in touch with the team on this exciting new site. Lankacricket.lk will be the home of Sri Lankan cricket on the web," said Anura Tennekoon, BCCSL Chief Executive.

Charlie Austin, head of CricInfo's Sri Lankan operations, said: "During the last year we have witnessed a mushrooming interest in Sri Lankan cricket on the web. The development of this new site, in partnership with the BCCSL, will heighten such interest, allowing us to conduct carefully targeted and cost effective advertising campaigns, as well as developing innovative sponsorship products for the Sri Lankan corporate sector."
