CricInfo.com notches up 250m not out
Leading cricket web site hits the competition for six
08 May 2001

ABC ELECTRONIC (www.abce.org.uk), the new media arm of Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) and the UK's foremost independent online auditor, has completed a comprehensive 31 day world wide audit on CricInfo.com (www.cricinfo.com). Final results have confirmed that the level of global traffic visiting the site exceeded an incredible 250 million page impressions and 3.5m users, (actual figures for March 1-31 were 254,599,866 page impressions and 3,553,168 users), making it the planet's largest single-sport site to have been audited and issued a certificate by ABC ELECTRONIC.

March was an exceptional month of cricket around the world. England overcame Sri Lanka, Pakistan took on New Zealand and India defeated Australia in one of the most exciting Test series for years.

CricInfo is the world's leading cricket website and one of the most popular Internet sports destinations. It is a diverse global network serving the Internet cricket community. The world's premiere online cricket network includes official sites for boards of eight of the ten Test nations, including ECB.co.uk - the official home of English cricket - and the International Cricket Council - the governing body of world cricket. CricInfo is also the online home for a number of domestic teams, as well as cricket clubs, leagues and cricket organisations. It has operations around the world which gather and process cricket information, build dynamic and innovative cricket products and work with advertisers to deliver targeted cricket advertising and sponsorship packages.

Peter Griffiths, CricInfo's Managing Director said: "We are obviously delighted with these figures. 250 million page impressions is a massive achievement by any standards. It is a credit to the team's hard work and the site's unique content. Having measured our own traffic in the past, we are pleased that ABC ELECTRONIC has been able to confirm the accuracy of our previous audits and to show that March was by far our record month."

Tim Rodda, Head of Sales at ABC ELECTRONIC, said: "We congratulate CricInfo on its first audit and for achieving such impressive figures. As the medium comes of age and the amount spent by advertiser increases, there is a growing incentive for companies to provide total accountability. It is a question of gradual acceptance, like the ABC audit for print publications. It is the same thing with the online industry. Given time audits will become accepted practice. Site measurement will be seen to demonstrate a certain level of professionalism and will provide advertisers and partners comfort, in that they can rely on reports to be consistently accurate and credible - and credibility is what marketers want from advertising!"
