CricInfo.com, the world's leading cricket web site and title sponsor of the Women's World Cup, is to broadcast live audio and video coverage on the internet of every match in the tournament which starts later this month. The official World Cup site, wwc2000.cricinfo.com, will host the broadcasts, supported by match reports, live scorecards, statistics, interviews and in-depth analysis.

The first match takes place on 29th November, as New Zealand takes on defending champions Australia. Play starts at 1000 AM (2200 GMT) with live coverage beginning 15 minutes earlier. England's campaign begins on the following day against The Netherlands, also at 1000 AM. In all there are 31 matches taking place over a 25-day period, with the final taking place on 23rd December, all covered exclusively by CricInfo.

The coverage of the World Cup follows a busy summer for the CricInfo broadcast team. The summer's action included the NatWest One Day Series between England, West Indies and Zimbabwe; the Test series between England and West Indies; Sri Lanka against Pakistan and South Africa; and the recent ICC KnockOut in Kenya.

Adrian Motherway, Managing Director of CricInfo New Zealand said: "No other cricket tournament will have received such in-depth coverage on the internet. The women's game has always been the more innovative side of cricket - from over-arm bowling to the first women's World Cup which happened two years before the men's - so its entirely appropriate for this tournament to set the standard in terms of internet coverage.

"The CricInfo site will be the only place where cricket followers can watch all the action. This World Cup is going to be the best women's tournament ever and we will do our bit by giving it the large global audience it deserves."

NOTES TO EDITORS

ABOUT THE CRICINFO WOMEN'S WORLD CUP

CricInfo is the title sponsor: the tournament is officially called the "CricInfo Women's World Cup 2000". The tournament, the seventh of its kind, runs from 28th November to 23rd December 2000 in and around Christchurch, New Zealand. The CricInfo Women's World Cup will be the single biggest international event hosted by New Zealand Cricket since the 1992 men's world cup.

The first Women's World Cup was held in England in 1973, and was to be the forerunner of the first men's World Cup in 1975. Australia (four times) and England (twice) have won the previous six Women's World Cup tournaments. The last final, at Eden Gardens in Calcutta, was attended by more than 80,000 people.

All matches in the CricInfo Women's World Cup 2000 will be played at three venues in Christchurch - BIL Oval, Lincoln Green at Lincoln University, and the Hagley Park Oval.
