Lynn McConnell has joined CricInfo's New Zealand operation as editor of the official site of NZC, www.nzcricket.co.nz. McConnell has 27 years' experience in journalism in New Zealand, on The Southland Times, The Marlborough Express and, most recently, The Evening Post. In his position he will be responsible for editorial planning and the creation and coordination of high quality cricket reporting, with a particular focus on the CricInfo Women's World Cup, which takes place in New Zealand in November and December this year.

In 1986 McConnell was named New Zealand Sportswriter of the Year. He was the Qantas Sports Columnist of the Year in 1996 and was named the New Zealand Cricket Writer of the Year in the same year.

During his career he has reported on: Richard Hadlee's 400th test wicket; Allan Border's world record test runs aggregate; Martin Crowe and Andrew Jones' world record partnership for all test wickets; the 1992 World Cup campaign; Mark Greatbatch's outstanding defensive innings in Perth to defy Australia a win in 1989. He achieved a notable hat-trick for his first three tests covered: the 1980 win over the West Indies at Carisbrook; the 1984 victory over England at Lancaster Park; and the 1985 "Chatfield" test win over Pakistan at Carisbrook.

In other sports, he reported Buck Shelford's All Blacks triumphal march through Australia in 1988, the 2000 defence of the America's Cup and in 1983 reported on the International Rugby Media Congress in South Africa.

McConnell has also published several books. Most notable among these were: "Something to Crow About", the centennial history of Southland rugby; "Chats", the autobiography of Ewen Chatfield; "McKechnie - Double All Black", the autobiography of Brian McKechnie and the Shell Encyclopedia of New Zealand cricket. He was also editor of the New Zealand Cricket Annual.

CricInfo hosts and manages the official web site of New Zealand Cricket, www.nzcricket.co.nz.
