Ball-by-Ball Commentary

Match State: Match start scheduled for 10:30am local time (2130 GMT)

welcome to Bert Sutcliffe Oval for the 8th match of the World
Series of Women's Cricket between New Zealand and India
it's a lovely day here at Lincoln and India have won the toss and
        chosen to bowl first
it'll be Jhulan Goswami to open the bowling from the City End, to
Michelle Lynch with Rebecca Rolls at the non-striker's end
0.1 Goswami to Lynch, wide: no run, full and wide outside off stump,
        left alone to the keeper
0.1 Goswami to Lynch, no run, good straighter fullish ball just outside
off stump, Lynch thrusts forward at it but is beaten, through to
the keeper, half-hearted appeal for caught behind
0.2 Goswami to Lynch, no run, fullish ball outside off stump, stretches
well forward, taken on the front pad and rebounds into the covers
0.3 Goswami to Lynch, legbye: one run, full on the legs, glanced away
off the pad just to the left of the keeper Naik diving across to
it, partially stops it but can't pick up quickly enough to prevent
a quick run from being taken
0.4 Goswami to Rolls, no run, shortish ball outside off stump, cuts at
it but only succeeds in chopping a bottom edge down to second slip
on the bounce, partially stopped with the legs
0.5 Goswami to Rolls, wide: no run, full and wide outside off stump,
leaves well alone to the keeper
0.5 Goswami to Rolls, no run, fullish, straighter ball, taken on the
pad as she pushes forward, hopeful shout for lbw from the bowler
0.6 Goswami to Rolls, one run, full outside off stump, strongly eased
into the covers, tight quick single taken but the pressure on the
fielder is too much, failing to pick up cleanly and the run
        becomes much easier

End of over 1 (4 runs) New Zealand Women 4/0 (RR: 4.00)
J Goswami 1-0-3-0 (2w) - City End
RJ Rolls 1* (3b) ML Lynch 0* (3b)

Rumeli Dhar to open the bowling from the Pavilion End
1.1 Rumeli to Rolls, FOUR, shot! full and angling down the leg side,
Rolls strongly sweeps it very fine, too good for short fine leg
and it races away to the rope
1.2 Rumeli to Rolls, no run, fullish ball outside off stump, leans well
forward, easing it down towards point in defence
1.3 Rumeli to Rolls, wide: no run, shortish ball straying down the leg
side, Rolls tries to pull it powerfully but misses, through to the
        keeper who fumbles the take
1.3 Rumeli to Rolls, no run, fullish, widish ball outside off stump,
watchfully leaves it alone through to the keeper
1.4 Rumeli to Rolls, one run, fullish ball angling on the legs, swept
down to a more conventionally placed fine leg this time
1.5 Rumeli to Lynch, no run, fullish ball outside off stump, shuffles
back in her crease, letting it go through to the keeper
1.6 Rumeli to Lynch, two runs, much fuller outside off stump, firmly
squeezed out into the covers for an easy single to get off the
mark, a good bit of fielding there is undone by a poor return to
the keeper, and an overthrow is conceded as fine leg has to back
        up

End of over 2 (8 runs) New Zealand Women 12/0 (RR: 6.00)
D Rumeli 1-0-8-0 (1w) - Pavilion End
RJ Rolls 6* (7b 1x4) ML Lynch 2* (5b)

2.1 Goswami to Rolls, no run, shortish, straight ball, tries to tuck it
square on the leg side but is taken on the thigh pad, drops down
        in close at her feet
2.2 Goswami to Rolls, no run, rather full and straight, strongly driven
straight back down the pitch, Goswami gets a hand to it, slowing
its pace down for mid off and mid on to cover up
2.3 Goswami to Rolls, no run, shortish ball outside off stump, slashes
at it but misses, cutting over the top of it, through to the
        keeper
2.4 Goswami to Rolls, two runs, shortish ball angling down the leg
side, glances it fairly fine, long leg around in the deep to field
2.5 Goswami to Rolls, no run, oooh! a tough chance goes astray for
India, fullish, straight ball is scooped up by Rolls towards
midwicket, the fielder there dives forward, but can't quite hold
        on to it
2.6 Goswami to Rolls, three runs, shortish ball angling on leg stump,
firmly turned away through backward square leg, excellent running
by Lynch to get back to the danger end to complete a third on the
        return from the deep

End of over 3 (5 runs) New Zealand Women 17/0 (RR: 5.67)
J Goswami 2-0-8-0 (2w) - City End
RJ Rolls 11* (13b 1x4) ML Lynch 2* (5b)

3.1 Rumeli to Rolls, no run, full and straight, strongly driven
straight back down the pitch just past the bowler, lucky for Lynch
there was no touch on that as it crashes straight into the stumps
with her just slightly out of her crease
3.2 Rumeli to Rolls, FOUR, shot! fullish ball is picked up powerfully
by Rolls, swinging it hard over midwicket's head, races away to
the rope, even though there's a deep midwicket in place, it was
        well placed
3.3 Rumeli to Rolls, two runs, shortish ball sits up, pulled out to the
deep midwicket fielder this time, still enough time to scamper
back for a second on the return throw
3.4 Rumeli to Rolls, wide: no run, full and wide outside off stump,
leaves well alone through to the keeper
3.4 Rumeli to Rolls, FOUR, shot! slightly overpitched outside off
stump, Rolls plays a classy square drive, not a power shot, simply
timing and it beats the chasing fielder to the rope by quite some
        margin
3.5 Rumeli to Rolls, two runs, full and straight, firmly driven through
wide midwicket, time for another comfortable couple as it's played
into a gap between two fielders
3.6 Rumeli to Rolls, no run, oooh! shortish ball just outside off
stump, Rolls tries a cheeky late cut but chops a bottom edge into
the ground, bounces up and just away from the stumps with the
        batsman nervously looking on

End of over 4 (13 runs) New Zealand Women 30/0 (RR: 7.50)
D Rumeli 2-0-21-0 (2w) - Pavilion End
ML Lynch 2* (5b) RJ Rolls 23* (19b 3x4)

well forward in defence, easing it down towards cover
4.2 Goswami to Lynch, wide: no run, short and wide outside off stump,
cuts and misses again, through to the keeper
4.2 Goswami to Lynch, no run, shuffles forward to a fullish ball, tries
to swing it away through midwicket but misses, taken on the pad
and rebounds back towards the bowler
4.3 Goswami to Lynch, no run, shortish ball just outside off stump,
cuts and misses, through to the keeper
4.4 Goswami to Lynch, no run, full outside off stump, sweetly drives
along the ground, straight up to mid off
4.5 Goswami to Lynch, no run, tight shortish ball on off stump, props
forward, defends back on the off side of the pitch
4.6 Goswami to Lynch, no run, fullish ball outside off stump, firmly
drives into the covers, bounces up awkwardly for the fielder, just
fends it away with her hand, otherwise her noggin' was in for a
        shock!

End of over 5 (2 runs) New Zealand Women 32/0 (RR: 6.40)
J Goswami 3-0-10-0 (4w) - City End
RJ Rolls 23* (19b 3x4) ML Lynch 2* (11b)

5.1 Rumeli to Rolls, FOUR, shot! full and straying down the leg side,
strongly swept very fine and fine leg can't get around in time to
        cut it off
5.2 Rumeli to Rolls, FOUR, cracking shot! poor ball, full toss down the
leg side and Rolls hammers it for all it's worth, pulled hard and
flat in the air through backward square leg, one bounce and over
the rope, Dhar right off target here
5.3 Rumeli to Rolls, no run, tighter fullish ball on off stump,
shuffles back in behind it, defending away to cover
5.4 Rumeli to Rolls, wide: no run, slower, full ball outside off stump,
leaves it well alone to the keeper as it's too wide
5.4 Rumeli to Rolls, FOUR, beautiful shot! overpitched outside off
stump, Rolls extends right out to it and plays a sumptuous cover
        drive, all timing once again
5.5 Rumeli to Rolls, FOUR, oooh! a little more lucky this time, driving
at a fullish ball, gets a thick outside edge in the air wide of
slip, down to the vacant third man boundary, fourth boundary of
        the over
5.6 Rumeli to Rolls, no run, tight fullish ball on off stump, stretches
well forward, defending into the covers

stump, cuts it down to backward point

leans forward but hangs the bat back out of the way to leave to
        the keeper
6.3 Goswami to Lynch, three runs, full on the legs, strongly clipped
away through midwicket, excellent running by Lynch to race to the
bowler's end where the return from the deep goes, and that brings
up the 50 stand in just 39 balls
6.4 Goswami to Rolls, FOUR, shot! full outside off stump, powerfully
driven through cover, low in the air but safely wide of the
fielder, just has enough gas to reach the rope
6.5 Goswami to Rolls, FOUR, shot! Rolls on fire, fullish ball, swings
it away through backward square leg, is great at playing the pick-
up shots across the line, over the head of the leaping backward
        square fielder
6.6 Goswami to Rolls, no run, tight shortish ball on off stump, leans
well forward, steering it down into the gully

New Zealand finish up with a fairly disappointing 239/9 after being
179/2 in the 35th over, but full credit to India who never gave up
        and fought back strongly
not a single boundary was hit by the home side after the 26th over,
and of the 15 hit in the period before then, 12 were by the
        blazing Rolls!
New Zealand will be most disappointed with the fact that three
batsmen made 50, but nobody made it to 60, when just one of them
going on to a greater score would've made the difference between
        getting 270-odd and 239
still, on this ground, this total should prove more than a handful
for the Indians, backing up for the second game in two days, it
will take a great effort to get near this score
the pick of the bowlers were Kala and Al Khadeer, taking the bulk
of the wickets and not giving away many runs, particularly in the
latter stages of the innings when New Zealand were looking to
        force the pace
please join us in just over 30 minutes time at 2:15pm local time

Goyal indeed isn't going to bat and the players shake hands, New
Zealand run out victors by a quite comfortable margin of 53 runs,
and pick up a bonus point, only just, as India needed to make 193
        to pick up one themselves
after a fine start which took them to 144/2 in the 34th over,
things fell apart with the dismissal of Raj (then Dhar very next
ball), losing their last 7 wickets for 42 runs in the space of 82
        balls
the New Zealand bowling and fielding was mixed today, a little
ragged at times, but they did what they needed to do to get the
points in the end, Drumm again proving the revelation with the
ball, taking another bag of three this tournament
today's results mean that it's an Australia-New Zealand final for
sure, meaning the remaining four round robin games are purely
        academic
that concludes our coverage from Bert Sutcliffe Oval today, please
