it's a lovely day here with a breezy nor'easter blowing, and New
Zealand have won the toss and chosen to bat first
three changes for New Zealand, with Michelle Lynch (12th man),
Aimee Mason and Amanda Green making way for Rebecca Steele, Sara
McGlashan and Louise Milliken, while India field an unchanged side

0.1 Goswami to Payne, no run, fullish, straight ball, firmly defended

0.2 Goswami to Payne, no run, full outside off stump, firmly driven
        straight to cover
0.3 Goswami to Payne, no run, shorter ball just outside off stump,
leaves it well alone through to the keeper

it down into the gully on the bounce
two slips, gully, point, cover, mid off, mid on, midwicket and fine

0.5 Goswami to Payne, no run, shortish ball outside off stump, happy to
leave it alone through to the keeper again

Amita Sharma to open the bowling from the Pavilion End
two slips, gully, point, cover, mid off, mid on, midwicket and fine
leg in place, same field as for Goswami
1.1 A Sharma to Rolls, no run, fullish ball just outside off stump,
watchfully defends back down the pitch on the off side
1.2 A Sharma to Rolls, two runs, fullish ball straying down the leg
side, neatly clipped away fine, well run second taken by Rolls as
the fielder down there has a little bit of work to dive to her
right to stop it, able to take a run on the return safely
1.3 A Sharma to Rolls, wide: no run, full and rather wide ball outside
off stump, dies once it pitches, left alone through to the keeper
1.3 A Sharma to Rolls, wide: no run, and again, a little shorter
outside off stump but no less wide, Rolls chases after it
unsuccessfully, missing through to the keeper
1.3 A Sharma to Rolls, no run, much straighter, back of a length ball,
Rolls tries to work it around the corner but misses, drops from
the pad down in close on the leg side
1.4 A Sharma to Rolls, no run, fullish, straight ball, firmly defends
straight back down the pitch to the bowler
1.5 A Sharma to Rolls, two runs, fullish ball outside off stump,

as the two cover fielders give chase
1.6 A Sharma to Rolls, no run, shortish ball seaming back in from
outside off stump, beats Rolls nicely, taken high on the pad and
there's a confident shout for lbw, but umpire Watkin is already
walking away from his spot to call the end of the over, not
        interested

End of over 2 (6 runs) New Zealand Women 6/0 (RR: 3.00)
A Sharma 1-0-6-0 (2w) - Pavilion End
N Payne 0* (6b) RJ Rolls 4* (6b)

2.1 Goswami to Payne, three runs, a little too full and straight,
strongly driven wide mid on, a long chase for the fielder from
straighter there, just pulls it in inside the rope on this
quickish outfield, Rolls keen for a fourth but a good relay
        through stops it
2.2 Goswami to Rolls, no run, tight fullish ball just outside off
stump, props forward in defence, solidly playing it back on the
off side of the pitch to the bowler

props forward in defence, drops it down in close on the off side
        of the pitch

forward in defence again, eases it away towards point

tries to glance it away fine but misses, deflects off the pad,
        through to keeper Naik
2.6 Goswami to Rolls, one run, fullish ball outside off stump, leans
well forward, easing it firmly forward of point, smart quick
single taken with the shot, rather easy in the end, even despite
the fumble by the cover fielder roaming across to get it

sweetly punched into the covers, but straight to the fielder
3.3 A Sharma to Rolls, FOUR, take that! Rolls innovates the way only
she knows how, kneels down the wicket, reaching for a shortish
ball and slog/pulls it through forward square leg, slightly in the
air but quite safe, just has the legs to get to the rope
3.4 A Sharma to Rolls, no run, good reply! shortish ball just leaving

defending down in close on the leg side of the pitch
3.6 A Sharma to Rolls, no run, full and straightish, Rolls tries her

appeal for lbw ignored by umpire Watkin, perhaps just heading down
        leg

        keeper

outside off stump, Payne reaches for it, trying to cut but just
gets a tickle on it, Naik dives to her right but can't glove it
cleanly, an early let off for Payne

along the ground straight up to mid on
6.5 Goswami to Payne, one run, great cricket all round! fullish,
straight ball, very nicely driven straight down the ground on the

low, this time a fullish ball outside off stump, beats the keeper

wholeheartedly but they have no show, lovely stroke
8.4 Goswami to Payne, one run, full on the toes, strongly clipped away

outside off stump, doesn't time it well but gets a fair chunk on

        field

15.1 Chopra to Payne, one run, full outside off stump, firmly driven
straight to short cover, poorly judged quick single taken, as the

it's New Zealand's 12th highest score in ODIs, but 4th highest
against what one could call genuine opposition (namely the likes
of Australia, England, South Africa and India)
Payne led the way, batting for over 46 overs for her 93, maybe a
breakthrough innings for her, even at this stage of her career,
after 63 matches, but only her 26th game, on and off for her
adopted country of New Zealand, far surpassing her previous best

the bowlers were a mixture, the slower bowlers being more

the best pace bowler was Goswami, who bowled a bit better than the

breakthroughs to show yesterday was no fluke, bowling with some
lovely flight, and recovering well from an expensive first
over, likewise David, who too went for 10 off her first before
settling on to a good length and being very hard to get away
        thereafter
India will have to pull off the third highest successful chase in
women's ODIs if they are to get the points today, a rather
difficult task indeed, considerably harder than the 87 they
needed, and laboured over, against England yesterday!
please join us in around 30 minutes at 2:15pm local time (0115 GMT)
for the start of India's chase at a required rate of 4.98 per over

the players slowly trudge off the field as New Zealand complete an

moderate interest at attempting to chase the challenging total

the mark after a comprehensive loss to Australia in their opening
game, meaning those two teams and India are all on 6, with England
on 0, after 3 of the 12 round robin games

get themselves bogged down the rest of the time
