Rules of the Tournament

1. Name of the Tournament:

  • The Tournament shall be called KSCA Diamond Jubilee All India Invitation Tournament for MRF Trophy.

2. Participation:

  • Participation in the Tournament is by Invitation. The number of teams to participate shall be decided by The Karnataka State Cricket Association.

3. Conduct of the Tournament:

  • The Tournament is conducted by The Karnataka State Cricket Association Diamond Jublee Tournament Committee. The draw dates and venues as decided by the Tournament Committee shal be final and binding on the participants.

4. List of Players:

  • The competing teams shall furnish of 13 players and the Manager before the commencement of the tournament to KSCA.

5. Stay:

  • The visiting teams will have to bear their travel expences and their boarding and lodging at Bangalore.

6. Laws of Cricket:

  • Except as here in modified, altered or added to the Laws of Cricket (2000 code) shall be apply in the matches. However, 5 penalty runs clause except that pertaining to law 41 fieldsmen, will not apply.

7. Duration of Match:

  • The matches shall be 3 days duration with 6 hours of play on each day.

8. Hours of Play:

9.30 a.m to 12.00 noon First Session
12.00 p.m to 12.40 p.m Lunch
12.40 p.m to 02.40 p.m Second Session
02.40 p.m to 03.00 Tea
03.00 p.m to 04.30 p.m Third Session


9. Number of overs:

  • All matches will be played with a restriction of 90 overs in the first innings and 40 overs in the second innings.

10. Turf/Matting Wickets:

  • Matches may be played on turf or matting wickets. Players are requested not to use boots with spikes while playing on matting wicket.
  • Wicket will be covered during and after the game to protect against rain.

11. Drinks Interval:

  • One drink break limited to 5 minutes in each session of play is permitted. Drinks shall not be taken unless game has been in progress for one hour or within 15 minutes before next interval or close of play.

12. Delyaed start/Interruption/Completion of overs:

  • If the start is delayed or if there is interruption due to weather conditions, play shall be extended (on the first and second day) for a maximum period of one hour beyond the scheduled close of play provided the light is fit for play in the opinion of the Umpires. In matches where play has commenced on time and the team fielding has not completed the allotted number of overs, play shall be extended for a maximum period of one hour beyond scheduled close of play to enable them to complete the overs.
  • However, on the first and second day, if an innings ends within the scheduled hours of play, play need not be extended beyond the scheduled houres unless game is interrupted due to weather conditions
  • On the last day play shall be extended till the result is achived or the required number of overs have been bowled provided the light is fit for play in the opinion of Umpires.

13. Field Restriction:

  • There shall not be more than 5 fieldsmen on the on side, at the instant of delivery through out the match. In the event of any infringement, Umpire at the striker's end shall call and signal "NO BALL"

14. Restriction on the number of overs:

  • There is no restriction on the number of overs to be bowled by a bowler.

15. Calling of wide:

  • Normal wide rule will apply during the 1st innings and One day limited over wide rule will be applied in the 2nd innings.

16. The bowling of fast short pitched balls:

  • Bowlers shall be limited to one fast short pitched ball per over. Next or any subsequent such delivery in an over shall be called as No Ball.
  • A Short pitched ball is one, which passes or would have passed above the shoulder height but not clearly passing over the head of the striker standing upright at crease.
  • Any delivery, which passes or would have passed clearly over head height of the striker standing upright at the normal standing position shall be called a NO Ball.

17. The bowling of fast high full pitches:

  • A fast high full pitched ball Shall be defined as a ball that passes or would have passed, full above the waist height of a batsman standing upright at the crease.
  • Should a bowler bowl a fast high full pitched ball, the Umpire shall calland signal No Ball.

18. Penalty for Slow over-rate:

  • Each team shall bowl a minimum of 15 overs per hour of play on an average. Penalty for not achieving the over rate will be applicable to both sides, irrespective of whether a decision has been arrived or not.
  • For each over bowled short, penalty will be twice the run rate obtained by the batting side. The same will be added to runs of the batting side at the end of each innings.

19. New Ball:

  • The Captain of the fielding side shall have the choice of taking the new ball after 75 overs on turf wicket and 50 overs on matting wickets.

20. Fitness of the Ground, Weather and Light:

  • In case of rain, the out field may be drained to permit early resumption of play. No appeal shall be upheld by the Umpires against the shadow of the stadium.

21. Fieldsman leaving the field:

  • No fieldsman shall leave the field or return during a session of play without the consent of the Umpire at the bowler's end. The Umpire's consent is also necessary if a substitute is required for a fieldsman at the start of play or when his side returns to the field after an interval.
  • If a member of the fielding side does not take the field at the start of play, leaves the field or fails to return after an interval and is absent from the field for more than 8 minutes.
  • The player shall not be permitted to bowl in that innings after his return until he has been on the field for at least that length of playing time for which he was absent.
  • (a) The player shall not be permitted to bat unless or untill, in the aggregate, he has returned to the field and / or his side's innings has been in progress for at least that length of playing time for which he has been absent or, if earlier, when his side has lost five wickets.
    The restriction in (a) and (b) above shall not apply if the player has been absent (i) arising of an external injury or (b) for exceptional and acceptable reasons.

22. Cricket Balls:

  • Cricket Balls supplied by KSCA shall only be used.

23. Protest:

  • No Protest shall be entertained by the Tournament Committee and the decision of the Tournament Committee on all matters in connection with the tournament shall be final.

24. Result:

  • The winners will be decided on the basis of two innings. If two innings are not completed, the winner will be the side which takes the lead in the first innings. If no decision can be arrived after the first innings, the winner will be decided by the spin of coin in the presence of the Umpires except in case of final, where both the team shall be declared as Joint Winners.

25. Committee's Power:

  • All matters whatsoever not covered within these rules shall be decided by the Tournament Committee and shall be final and binding. The Tournament committee whose decision shall be final and binding shall decide all interpretations in regard to these rules.

26. Trophy:

  • The winning team will be awarded KSCA DIAMOND JUBILEE ALL INDIA INVITATION TOURNAMENT FOR MRF TROPHY 2002 The trophy should be returned to KSCA in good condition on the expiry of 6 months.

27. Prize Money:
