An explanations of Cricket

Super Max international rules

Except as modified hereunder the One-Day International Playing Conditions shall apply in all matches.

    GENERAL

    1. The time frame of each match is between 3 and 3 1/2 hours.
    2. Each team has 2 innings, each consisting of 10 overs (i.e. a total of 20 overs per team for each match).
    3. The intention of each innings is to be completed in 45 minutes (see over rate penalties).
    4. There are 11 players per team plus a twelfth man. The additional twelfth player is a specialist fielder, who can be used for interchange in the field at any time.
    5. If a no ball is bowled the batsman is not out, neither can he be dismissed off the next ball. The no ball must be bowled again. If a wide is bowled the next ball after is still a free hit (NB: the normal penalty of one run will not apply to the No Ball).
    6. If a wide is bowled, 2 runs are scored and the ball must be bowled again.
    7. The ball must pass the batsman inside the wide zone, which is indicated by 2 lines at each end painted between the popping and bowling crease. The dotted line is for the leg-side, the solid line is for the offside. There are lines for both left and right handed batsmen.

  1. BATTING

    1. Each team has 2 separate innings in which the 11 players of each team will bat if necessary.
    2. If the ball is hit into the Max Zone, the batsman's run(s) are doubled. So if the batsman makes 1 run he scores 2. Similarly, if the ball is hit along the ground through the Max Zone boundary for 4 the batsman will actually score 8 or if hit over the Max Zone boundary on the full the batsman will score 12 runs.
    3. The Max Zone only applies to shots in front of the wicket.
    4. If a catch is completed inside the Max Zone the batsman is out.

  2. BOWLING

Each of the bowlers can bowl up to a maximum of 4 overs each per match. There are no restrictions per innings.

  3. FIELDING

    1. In the first 5 overs of each innings only 2 fielders are allowed outside the circle and 2 catchers must be within 13.72 metres of the batsman.
    2. In the last 5 overs of each innings only 4 fielders are allowed outside the circle.
    3. If any fielder, in an unsuccessful attempt to run a batsman out, hits the stumps with the ball, no additional runs may be scored. The ball is not dead and subsequent run outs may be attempted.
    4. No fielder is allowed in the Max Zone as the ball is being delivered.

  4. INTERVALS

There is an immediate change over, not lasting longer than 8 minutes.

  5. THE TOSS

In all games a toss will be made. Team lists to be exchanged before the toss.

  6. OVER-RATE PENALTIES

The umpire should be in the position to commence the tenth and final over within the 40 minutes allowed for the innings. Failure by the fielding side to comply with this will result in a penalty. The fielding side will only bat for the same numbers of overs as they bowled during the 40 minutes. (e.g. If the fielding side bowls 9 overs only, inside the 40 minutes, the batting side is allowed to complete their 10 overs. However, as a penalty, the fielding side may only bat 9 overs.)

  7. GROUND DIMENSIONS

    [Diagram of Max Zones]

    1. Wide Zones: off side is a solid line 60cm from the middle stump on side is dotted line 30cm from the middle stump.
    2. Circle: normal 27.5m radius
    3. Max Zone is:
20m deep and 60m wide along the boundary
40m wide along the front of the Max Zone
60m from the front of the Max Zone to the far batting crease.
80m from the back of the Max Zone to the far batting crease.

NOTE: A Max Zone Hit applies when:
The ball passes through the posts or
The ball is grounded within the Max Zone
The ball touches the player deemed to be standing in the Zone

  8. WEATHER DELAYED STARTS AND INTERRUPTED MATCHES

    1. 20 overs constitutes a match completed ie. 10 overs each side
    2. 30 overs constitutes a '2 innings' match ie. 10 overs each 1st innings, 5 or more overs each 2nd innings

RAIN RULE FORMULA (TO DETERMINE NUMBER OF OVERS LEFT)

    1. Whatever time remains (total time 210 minutes)
      1. Subtract number of intervals left (8 minutes per interval).
Divide remaining minutes by 4 per over, equals ______ overs:
      2. Plus overs used (if any), equals the total number of overs per match to be divided evenly.
    2. If play is stopped in the final 10 overs then to determine the score to win:
      1. Take the time remaining e.g. 20 minutes divide 4, equals 5 overs left;
      2. Take the overall run-rate from the team who have completed their overs and multiply by amount of overs the match is reduced to eg. Team A scores 200 runs off 20 overs - 10 per over. Match reduced to 15 overs means 10 x 15 + 1 = 151 to win.
      3. The fielding restrictions will apply then as:
5 or less overs = 4 men outside circle
6 or more overs - then 5 overs with 4 men out of the remaining overs are bowled with 2 men out/2 catching; last 5 overs with 4 men out.

  9. HOURS OF PLAY
