Israel Domestic Season

Lions Be'er Sheva finish on a high

Israel Cricket Association

August 7, 2007

Lions Be'er Sheva completed their league season with a four wicket win over Ra'anana 2 at Hadar Yosef on Friday to move top of Division 2, although they are unlikely to remain there as their rivals have games in hand. Samson Ashtanmkar top scored with 74 for the visitors, in an exciting finish which saw victory achieved with just two balls remaining.

Asked to bat first, Ra'anana made a slow start against tight bowling, crawling to 60 or 3 in 20 overs. However Akiva Lieberman (62*) and Anthony Harris (91*) began finding the boundaries as the innings came to a close, and Ra'anana would have been satisfied with their total of 204 for 3.

Moshe Saul (26) and Ashtamkar shared a 72-run stand for the 2nd wicket, and Yaniv Dhokarkar (18) and Ashtamkar added 85 for the 4th wicket, but Ra'anana gave themselves a chance picking up three quick wickets for just five runs to leave Be'er Sheva at 167 for 5. However captain Norman Sankar kept his cool as the pressure mounted, finishing not out on 25 to ensure victory for his team. Harris completed an excellent game taking 3 for 28.
