Bangladesh in Australia 2008

Raqibul Hasan ruled out of series

Raqibul Hasan, the Bangladesh batsman, has been ruled out of the ongoing ODI series against Australia after fracturing his right thumb. Raqibul sustained the injury when he gloved a catch off the seamer Brett Geeves in Bangladesh's humiliating 180-run defeat on Saturday.

An X-ray taken on Saturday afternoon had revealed a comminuted fracture. Raqibul was examined on Monday by an orthopaedic surgeon who concluded that surgery wasn't required but said the thumb would have to be placed in a splint for four to six weeks. Raqibul will stay in Australia and return to Bangladesh with the rest of the team on September 7.

The team was already hit by the injury to the batsman Nazimuddin, who flew home after injuring his left ring finger before the first warm-up match at the Gardens Oval in Darwin.
